Bjork: Volta
Volta, Bjork’s new album is very unique. Its sound effects alone are intriguing enough to make you want to keep listening. Then throw in her vocals and the combination is somewhat mesmerizing. This music is not very upbeat and happy, if anything I would say it is intense. Overall Volta is dramatic and will definitely hold your interest throughout.
Bright Eyes: Casadaga
Bright Eyes’ new album, Casadaga, is easy to listen to.. and very mellow. This album is not electronical or experimental in any way, but very classical using basic instruments. Connor Oberst has a very distinct voice that makes him stand out from other artists. I feel this is an album anyone can enjoy. The instrumentals are very upbeat and the entire album is lighthearted. If you’re in a bad mood, this CD will cheer you up.
The Dear Hunter: Act II: The Meaning of & All Things Regarding Ms.Leading
The Dear Hunter is one of the most original bands I have heard in the past few years. Their newest album, Act II: The Meaning of & All Things Regarding Ms. Leading plays off of their first album, and is extremely clever and impressive. Both the instrumentals and vocals are amazing. The album has a very theatrical sound. It uses a wide variety of instruments, and even incorporates choir-like vocals. This music is innovative and I would recommend for anyone to listen to it.
Tegan and Sara: The Con.
The newest release from Tegan and Sara (The Con) is extremely catchy. It has definitely gone in a different direction from their previous cds. It is more upbeat and incorporates techno in a handful of the songs, and is somewhat more juvenile. However, I do love the unique voices of these Canadian sisters. In general, the album was a bit more mainstream than I was hoping for, but overall still very enjoyable to listen to.
Fall of Troy: Manipulator.
Oh, The Fall of Troy.. This band is ridiculous, especially their guitarist. They switched up their most recent CD (Manipulator) a bit and threw in a few slower songs, which are just as enjoyable as their faster songs. But for the most part Manipulator consists of quick-paced songs with incomprehensible screaming, and amazing guitar throughout. Very fun to listen to and definitely impressive, not to mention, has extremely interesting album artwork.
